When we receive calls from the Ventura County Jail, they are routed through a vendor that requires an account to accept collect calls from inmates. It is one of the frustrating things families have to experience when it takes a while to hear from them because they have to setup an account.
Be aware that the majority of the County jails have a phone system that requires one to open an account. Many times I receive calls from the Ventura County Jail for posting bail, and discover that they are unable to get in touch with there family to make arraignments for bail. This is were I am able to communicate with inmates families, and sometimes able to connect a 3 way calling so they may speak with family while I am able to explain the process as well.
When accepting calls from any jail, keep in mind that they are recorded. Keep the conversations to matters in regards to posting bail, or things that have no relation to the reason you are in jail. As the saying goes, "Lose lips sink ships".
Lastly, be prepared to have a credit card to open the account to accept your family or friend calls from the jail. Most require a minimum of $25 for accepting calls. For more information, contact the jail facility were your family or friend is in custody to determine who the vendor is as many county jails use different vendors to operate the jails phone systems
